Enforcement:
|
There are different ways to enforce your rights but the right to enforce is created by a court order or Judgment. Most enforcement actions are brought by a lawyer on your behalf in a proceeding called a Contempt Action. Contempt actions can involve the failure to pay support, failure to obey a parenting plan or failure to follow other court orders such as the delivery of property. A contempt cannot be filed for the failure to pay money except the failure to pay support (i.e. no contempt for failure to pay bills). Other enforcement actions can be by garnishment of bank accounts or wages.
