Slander case wins $350,000:
COQUILLE -- A circuit court jury has awarded a Myrtle Point businessman $350,000 in a slander suit against Graham Oil Company of Coos Bay and Hal Graham, the company's vice president.
The jury ruled in favor of Ron La Franchi, owner of Ron's Oil following a four-day trial last week.
La Franchi said Graham and Graham Oil defamed him by spreading rumors over a six-year period that his success came from drug activity.
Gil Feibleman, a Salem attorney who representad La Franchi said he was very satified with the judgement. "We think $350,000 is pretty substantial vindication," Feibleman said. La Franchi had asked for a $1.2 million judgement.
"My client (La Franchi) is very anti-drug, and to link him with that type of activity was the wost thing to do to him," Feibleman said.
Neither Graham nor his attorney Jeffrey Hill, of Portland, were available for comment today.
